Wit
by Margaret Edson

Directed by Warren Dutkiewicz
Produced by Rebekah Poppel

In Margaret Edson’s 1999 Pulitzer Prize-winning drama, Vivian Bearing, Ph.D., a professor of 17th century poetry, who is expert at deciphering and interpreting the “wit” found in John Donne’s metaphysical sonnets, is confronted with the most difficult challenge of her life. She is diagnosed with stage four ovarian cancer. There is no stage five. Wit is her struggle with the disease and the experimental, intensive therapy to stop its progress. She is forced to examine her life as closely as she has examined Donne’s poetry. How can she now find the human contact, understanding and empathy that she has avoided all her life?
